About Sarajane McCarthy
The journey so far...
My journey to mindfulness has taken many twists and turns. Upon leaving Wesley College, Dublin, in 1999 I studied Business and Law in UCD. Although I loved my years in UCD I knew very early on that the corporate life was not for me. Looking for a more creative route, I went on to attain a Higher diploma in Journalism and Media studies in Griffith College. Throughout my student years it was my part time job that really fuelled my passion. I fell in love with Ballet at the age of three and was lucky enough to start teaching my own dance class at the age of fourteen. So in 2005 I set up Wonderland Workshops performing arts classes for children and teens. My classes quickly grew in size and I expanded to several different locations taking on other teachers. Very soon I began to notice positive changes in some of the children’s behaviour. I became very interested in the area of Drama therapy so in 2006 I trained with the Sesame Institute in Drama and Movement Therapy. In 2007 I began working with adults and children with intellectual disabilities in St Michael’s House. Then, one fateful night, fuelled by a few pink champagnes, I bid on a course at a charity auction...Mindfulness...I had never heard of it but I can honestly say that it has changed my life. In 2010 while juggling Wonderland Workshops, my therapy sessions and some theatre production jobs my beautiful daughter Abigail arrived at 28 weeks. My world was turned upside down, all the “doing” had to stop. My established mindfulness practice proved invaluable in coping through the darkest times. As the years went by and we welcomed two other amazing daughters Juliet and Claudia into our family, I continued my mindful journey and discovered new practices like Loving Kindness and Self Compassion. Then in early 2017 I completed my Professional Mindfulness Training with the Irish Mindfulness Academy. Every day, every course, every workshop, every client shines a new light on the power of this simple yet transformative practice. I look forward to you joining me on this amazing journey.
